I love bass. It gives me chills, makes my spine tingle, helps me concentrate and always seems to put my brain into overdrive. The only problem I had was it was so damn hard to find a good bass track! This all changed two months ago when I was informed that this style of music had a name. Dubstep. Now, I had always been familiar with drum and bass, and there are great drum and bass songs for sure, but many of them just didn’t strike that vibe with me that I found myself slowly becoming addicted to.

Enter dubstep. Wikipedia tells me that it is a genre of electronic dance music that started in London’s UK garage scene around the start of the of this century. It is distinguished by it’s 2-step rhythm, use of snares and a heavy emphasis on bass. I’m no music buff, but that sounds exactly like what I had been searching for. I’m not gonna get too much into the history of dubstep, but for those of you interested Wikipedia has a great article.

Over the last two months I have been exposed to an absolute shit-ton of dubstep (the reddit dubstep subreddit is great for this). I am still figuring out what I like, what I dislike and what I absolutely love. If anyone has some suggestions feel free to leave them in the comments.

Anyways, I’m going to leave you with some of my favorites – enjoy;

And here it is.

I’ve finally gotten around to redesigning Mediasoldier and relaunching Kojiflak as my personal blog space. I’ve wanted to do this for some time now but was pretty bogged down as I was working at Organic this summer (a digital advertising agency in Toronto).

Organic, Inc. Toronto Exterior. Photo courtesy of Studio-Eleven, Flickr.

As time goes on, my intentions with this blog may change, but as it stands now I intend to use it as my playground and an interface to share inspiring work I find on the net.

In the meantime, please check out my portfolio at http://www.mediasoldier.net. I’ve gone with a nice Royal Green color which, I’m not gonna lie, I am coming quite fond of.

Thanks for dropping by,

- Trevor
